A Special “Thank You” to Senator John McCain
I would like to personally thank Senator John McCain for the words he spoke in his concession speech. As the leader of the New Black Panthers I was fully impressed he took the time to voice his support for President Elect Barack Obama and urge his party, his race and every other race in America to rally behind our new leader. "This is an historic election, and I recognize the special significance it has for African-Americans and for the special pride that must be theirs tonight," he said.
I have never seen a Presidential candidate be so humble in his concession. Even when some of his supporters in the crowd began to shout out and heckle the newly elected team he spoke up, calming the crowd, urging his followers to unite and work with the new administration.
Senator McCain further demonstrated him humbleness by taking complete responsibility for his loss, choosing to unite rather than cast blame. By his words and actions in that single speech, instead of dragging us years backward in the equal rights movement, he thrust America forward, demonstrating strength through unity.
I truly respect the man and the message.
